Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 5th July 2024

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Family Liaison Blog!

Here we are, July has arrived, and we are on the final run down to the end of this academic year and the long summer holidays. The last day of the school term is Friday 19th July, and we reopen to students on Wednesday 4th September. The school is not staffed over the summer holidays.

There is a lot going on today with the This is Me festival, workshops, enterprise etc. I’m dressed in my favourite emerald green as a nod to the country of my birth and first home.

Events:

Tuesday 9th July: Transition for students.

Wednesday 10th July: A busy day…

  • Social Coffee morning/FoPHS updates and information event (Preparation for Adulthood/PfA) 9.30-11.00
  • Sports Day/MOVE event in school for students.

The letter below was sent out this week.

On The News

Percy Hedley School students were featured on BBC Look North yesterday (Thursday 4th).

They were filmed following their work assisting Groundwork NE & Cumbria with a new Kittiwake tower installed on the river Tyne at Gateshead. They’ve been helping to create artificial nests and decoy chicks, all in the hope of attracting Kittiwakes, and yesterday they got to see their work in action.

In other news:

This week a team of staff were trained by ReboundTherapy.org to become trainers themselves. This means we can provide in house training to staff which will allow even more pupils to access Rebound Therapy. Rebound Therapy uses the trampoline to provide opportunities for movement, therapeutic exercise, and recreation for people across virtually the whole spectrum of additional needs. We use our Rebound Therapy sessions to provide cognitive challenge, develop communication skills, promote independence, aid wellbeing, and improve gross motor skills. The therapeutic effect of the trampoline has many benefits on our bodies too, but above all, it is really fun!

 Online Safety:

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading “Parent and carers area”, then “online safety” from the dropdown menu.

This week’s Online Safety Blog is a guide for parents and guardians surrounding radicalisation. In our digital age, the internet is an incredibly valuable resource for learning and connecting. However, we must remember that it also has its dangers, especially for our young children. One of the most serious concerns today is the risk of radicalisation. As parents, you play a crucial role in safeguarding your children from these online threats. This blog post aims to provide you with the knowledge and tools to help keep your children safe.
