Family Information and PTA updates 17 June 2022

Coffee afternoon.

Approximately 20 parents/carers attended the first post pandemic social coffee afternoon on Wednesday. It was lovely to see new new and older parents and to finally put faces to names. As the MOVing all over the world was taking place, most of the parents took up the invitation to see it in action. I had some lovely feedback and hope to continue these half termly.

What you found most valuable:

  • Talking to other parents (unanimous)
  • Meeting parents of children in your child’s class
  • Being inside school
  • Seeing the MOVE event in action
  • Meeting me in person and discussing your issues
  • Meeting some staff (at MOVE event)

Training/workshops for Parents/Carers

We know from past experience how valuable training is for parents and these have now resumed. Earlier in the year the first of these was the online E-Safety one. 2 others are planned, one on phonics, the other on MOVE. I know how valuable I found these as a parent. Whilst we won’t be able to choose a time which suits everyone, it would help to know what times do not work for the majority of families. I shared lots of online sessions available over lockdown but they weren’t accessed, which makes me think people prefer face to face. However, if they are recorded, would this be better for those who can’t get here in person? I know we have families who don’t drive, live a long way from here, have siblings/young children and other barriers to getting here.

Let us know please.

E-Safety

This is a really important part of our work at school, ensuring that our students who do access online platforms are as safe as they can be. Philip Coates who, with Maria Mawdesley’s input adds content weekly has asked me to signpost parents/carers to the E-Safety section of the school website. There you will find recent updates on

  • Tik Tok
  • Apple IOS 16: Family Sharing
  • Staying safe on WhatsAPP
  • Staying safe on YouTube
  • Staying safe on Roblox
  • XBox Family Settings App

You will also find a recording of the online session which Philip ran earlier in the year. It is important that we get feedback from parents/carers on these and Philip and Maria would appreciate it if you would provide this please.

The link to the E-Safety section can be found under the heading “Parents and Families”

Ofsted Parent View

Thanks to those who have completed this Ofsted survey already. Apart from being visible to Ofsted, it gives school some sense of how parents/carers feel about certain aspects of school. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete and I would like to see more results.

The link to complete is here

You will, if you haven’t already completed one need to register your email address so that Ofsted can, if they need to verify that the surveys have been completed by current parents/carers.

The Little Falcon: Tracey Horner

I spoke with Tracey this week and she is expecting a delivery of her book in the next week or so. Priced at £6.99, she has had feedback from schools saying it is a very useful teaching tool. My own view is that it is a positive way to teach people about so much more than disability! We hope to have copies for sale at our summer fayre. Tracey will be donating a copy to the school library and 10% of profits to the PTA., for which we are extremely grateful.

PTA

Thank you to those who have started sending in donations for the summer fayre. We are always humbled by the generosity of our families. We already have some lovely raffle prizes and, as it will be cloakroom tickets we can only sell these on the day. We have

Champagne, Morrisons voucher, Love 2 shop voucher, Whiskey, Fruit hamper, toys, a Chocolate hamper, Gin hamper and Prosecco hamper. You have to be in it to win it and at the fayre to buy tickets

Next week we would welcome gift sets for our gift tombola, but we will still be collecting bottles, non alcoholic as well as alcohol.

We need volunteers to help run the stalls. Could you or a family member or friend do a couple of hours? If so, please let me know

PTA Meeting

Next Thursday, 23rd June we have our meeting via Microsoft TEAMS in the evening from 19.30-20.30. Donna has asked if there are any items you would like added to the agenda. The link to join the meeting is here

PTA Facebook Group

We have had 3 new members this week, and I hope that you feel it is a useful additional means of communicating about school as well as PTA matters. The link to join the group is here

Until next week; let’s hope the warm, dry weather continues through the weekend at least
