Lines Behind x Hedley’s College
We’re delighted to finally show our brand new, updated College cafe after undergoing a huge transformation. Earlier this Summer, we had a grand opening where college students were finally able to see the new cafe for the first time in months. Lines Behind designer James Dixon also attended to see his artwork in all its glory on the college cafe wall.
James donated his time to design our new visual masterpiece mural, which features all things Percy Hedley, that students know and love. It’s James’ largest design to date and we’re incredibly grateful to have worked alongside a North East designer to create a calming and welcoming space for our students with such an interactive piece of art for our wall. We look forward to our partnership growing.
It was amazing creating this huge artwork for the cafe, of this amazing North East charity. The Foundation has been around 70 years next year and makes such a difference to the North East, that I am absolutely delighted to support them with the new cafe and hopefully many more projects to come.
– James Dixon, Lines Behind
The new college cafe was originally started by one of our dearest colleagues, Jon Wilks, who spearheaded the project in 2021 to create a better space for our students. James from Lines Behind wanted to include Jon in the design as a nod to the amazing work he did while he was with us.
We invited many others to come and view our new college cafe, and Percy Hedley CEO John Knight came along to see the project.
Absolutley amazing transformation of the cafe, which is loved by all staff and students. A huge thank you to James, we know how busy he has been working on Great North Run projects and many more things, so we are delighted to have him working with the Foundation.
– John Knight, CEO of Percy Hedley Foundation
The cafe is just amazing and I am delighted that all our students and staff will be able to use this great space every day and take in this amazing piece of art. A huge thank you to James from every student and teacher here.
– Jo Rees-Proud, College Principal
We’d also like to say a huge thank you to the Wolfson Foundation for funding this incredible project from start to finish. Our new College Cafe wouldn’t have come to fruition without your support. As you can see from the before and during photos, a lot of work has been put into creating this new space over several months.
We now have a built-for-purpose, contemporary space that utilises sound technology to prevent echoing to create a safer, more relaxing environment for our students to enjoy their lunch break.
