Family Information and PTA News 2 December

Welcome to the Family and PTA news blog for Percy Hedley School.

We’re into December now, and Christmas activity planning in school is well underway.

It was lovely to welcome around 15 parents/carers to the half termly social coffee morning on Wednesday. I always ask for evaluations to be completed. This one was no different to the last one, although I had quite a few first-time attendees there. What you value most is the opportunity to talk to other parents. You didn’t really have other ideas, but I’ll continue to ask.

Events: Some parents asked what Christmas events in school parents could join. Here’s what I found out:

Thursday 15th December: ELTBA craft afternoon 2-3pm

Friday 16th December: Christmas Carols at Killingworth library 10.30am. I’m not sure what students are involved, so ask class team if you need to know.

Wednesday 21st December: KS3/4 Christmas Fair 13.30-15.00. This is an enterprise project so younger children will not be involved. However, all parents are invited to the fair.

Thursday 22nd December: Engagement classes Christmas Assembly 14.00.

One of our Post 16 parents, Alison asked me about the student discount scheme. Our Post 16 students would be eligible to use these. We are registered with Unidays. The link is below:

Unidays: https://www.myunidays.com/GB/en-GB/account/register

To access, you will need to use the students Percy Hedley email. If you need help with this, passwords etc please contact your child/young person’s class teacher.

Totum Card: Formerly the NUS Extra card, I have emailed to ask if we can avail of these again and will update once I receive a response. The website says it takes up to 2 weeks.

CBeebies Bedtime Story.

BBC Local news featured one of our former PHS students this week. Rob Burrows, a well-known former Leeds Rhinos Rugby league player who has Motor Neurone Disease is reading a bedtime story tomorrow on CBeebies using an eye gaze. I loved seeing Lucy and her mum Jo interviewed about the importance of Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

If you would like to view it, the link is below. It will be on The One Show tonight
