Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 27th October 2023

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Family Liaison Blog!

Happy half term to everyone. It has been a long, eventful start to the academic year. We had an ungraded Ofsted inspection in week 2 which went rather well I thought. If you haven’t had a chance to read it, you will find it on the school website under the first section, selecting “Ofsted Reports” from the drop-down menu

We had departmental coffee afternoons with the last of the 4 yesterday. I held the first of my half termly social coffee mornings and overall attendance at these events was good. We know it is difficult for many of you to get here for various reasons including distance, other care responsibilities, distance, work, and we have several parent/carers who don’t drive. This week’s may have been affected by school half term as some authorities were off this week.  If there is anything we could do to help, please let me or Tracy, who is working on the LPPA know. We have an events calendar which can be found on the school website under the “Parent and Carers” section, selecting School Calendars from the drop-down menu. I would be happy to host online get togethers if there was any interest.

Remember that school reopens after half term on Monday 6th November.

Here are links to the school calendars:

16-19 Bursary.

Letters have been sent to all Post 16 families and on Wednesday 8th November, from 11.15-12.15 I will hold a session for parents/carers to explain it fully and answer any questions. If you applied last year for your child, I will be in contact to see if you wish to apply again this year.

This will be a hybrid event and you are welcome to attend in person or join online. Please let me know if you intend coming in to school, so that I can arrange refreshments. I may even bake a cake.

Free School Meals:

Those who have returned forms and evidence where required will receive vouchers on Monday 30th October. These are for those eligible due to low family income. The letter from North Tyneside who provide them has been emailed to you. Please remember to activate them on receipt. You  Once they expire, we cannot re-issue as they are cancelled by the council.

Online Safety:

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading “Parent and carers area”, then “online safety” from the dropdown menu.

The Online safety blog this week is on PEGi (Pan European Gaming Information) ratings, gaming and appropriate content.

Important message from Rebecca, our DSL

A text was sent to you this week, asking you to complete a form to help us establish levels of interest and detail on training which would help parents/carers in relation to online safety. I can’t emphasise, from a parental perspective just how important this is for you and your children/young people.

Message below:

We have added a section to both the online safety page and the safeguarding page on our website for you to ask us any questions in confidence about online safety or safeguarding.  This form can have contact details added to it if you would like a personal response, if not these questions will be answered within a frequently asked questions section on the website and the blog.

Please use the link at the top of the form to change the language or use the text to speech button to support accessibility within your responses.
