News, Stars & Some Great PE from John & the PHS Team 24th November 2023

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Whole School Blog!

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday everyone, and I hope you’re all well

We’re getting to that stage of this term now when all the dates are going into the calendar for all the nice things that are going to happen between now and the end of term, so please do look on the website and follow the link to see what’s going on – we are adding to it all the time though!

Our lovely kitchen was inspected with no notice this week and they only went and got five stars too!!!!!!!!!!! Well deserved, and thanks and congratulations to them – a 5 STAR!!! team! We’re lucky to have them

Please have a read of what our new PE guys, Richard and Nathan are saying, and there’s a lovely thing from Hannah’s class about Music Therapy as well

All the best and thanks for your support. I hope we’ll see you between now and the end of term – there will be Consultation sessions too so you can talk about the progress your son or daughter is making in class. There are great blogs this week as usual from Maria and Eileen and other stuff on the website too

All the best for a good weekend. Cheers!

Literacy

Personal Development

Physical Development

  • our three Super Steering Groups

These three big Steering Groups deliver our curriculum – there’s a paper describing how it all works on the website if you want to read further. The Groups work on all the areas in these broad subjects to deliver the right things for our pupils. This is where a lot of exciting stuff is happening, so I can’t resist leading on it in the blogs. Here is the latest from those three groups, in the order they’re listed above.

Literacy!

With The Literacy Squad! All Things Literacy!

The Literacy Squad are working on some great stuff at the moment. November is Non-Fiction! Excellent! Some people prefer that to fiction, but we just want everyone to read, whatever they’re reading. Here are the guys! Go Squad! Sarah’s been getting into non-fiction November, and this is from her!

This week the ELTBA classes have been diving into non-fiction texts and the world around them. The Magpies (2KH) class have been gathering facts about our school. The Doves (2RC) have been exploring water as a topic and have created some fun facts that they have shared and will be added to the school ‘fact-tree’. More fantastic facts to follow next week!

Physical Development

Steph oversees the Physical Development team’s exciting work

Now, obviously PE is part of Physical Development, and we’re delighted that Richard and Nathan have joined us to do some great stuff with Steph in that area. Have a read of this – looks great! This is from Richard

This half term we are focusing on learning different rugby skills. We have been incredibly lucky to team up the Newcastle Falcons to inspire our students! The first few weeks we have focused on passing, working as a team and dodging a defender. Please have a look at what we have been up to. Look out for Amelie and Gracey’s brilliant passing accuracy, Phillip organising his team, Jack showing us how to pass from the pocket and Rosie and Teddy’s great ball handling skills!

Educational Visit of the Week!

4AH have been visiting places in the local community this term, the shops, cafes and Killingworth Lake. Last week the students were able to independently choose where in the community they wanted to go. Gracey and Benjamin chose to visit the lake and the shop. They enjoyed looking over the lake and running from the swans! They both then visited Lidl where Gracey decided to join the Christmas spirit early by purchasing a chocolate Santa! Great choosing everyone!

Music Therapy session of the Week!

Hannah’s class has been doing some exciting work with the Music Therapist that we’ve had coming in. Let’s hear from Hannah!

Our class has been very lucky to have a music therapist, Chris come in every Thursday morning since September. Danny loves music and this week Danny showed an increase in confidence, exploring a range of instruments and joined in playing the keyboard at the front of the class with Chris. Well done Danny, we are very proud of you!
