Family Information and FOPHS News Thursday 28th March 2024

This week’s online safety blog is about information received from The Prevention Through Education Team at North Tyneside. It concerns a WhatsApp group on self-harm.

“The dates for the next Personal Assistant Training have been announced. If you have already done the course, thank you so much for your fantastic feedback. It is lovely to know people are enjoying the course and learning lots of information.

There is a full programme of events with times which you will find on the poster, and it is on a Pay what you can basis. Tickets should be pre-booked by visiting the link below.

I contacted them to ask about accessibility and here is the response:

“For parking, there isn’t a lot of spaces at Gosforth Civic Theatre but there is some alternative parking nearby.

Regent Centre Metro Station – this is a paid for multi-storey car park 2 minutes’ walk away from the venue.
Bulman House – This is directly behind GCT just off Henry Street. It is used by NHS employees between the hours of 8am and 6pm Mon-Fri but outside these hours is free to use.
There is also parking facilities on Salters Road, and at Asda, Gosforth Leisure Centre and Gosforth Shopping Centre, please check these places before parking for any fees and restrictions.

The accessible toilet isn’t a changing place so there isn’t a hoist. The nearest CP toilet is a few minutes’ walk away at the Gosforth Pool and Leisure Centre. This will be open during Daydream Cinema Day https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/newcastle/gosforth. As Gosforth Leisure Centre is a separate organisation from GCT and Daydream Cinema, we can’t be 100% of the Changing Places availability for the day of the event.

I did include this a couple of weeks ago, but just in case you missed it.

Each number is £3, and the draw will be done during one of our FoPHS meetings. This could be as soon as 16th May if numbers sell quickly.

Outdoor Learning Area.

This is an area we feel the FoPHS can help develop and it will be an ongoing project. We would like to put out some feelers for volunteers to help in this area, anything from tidying up, helping make planters etc. I would be happy to show people round, share the plans with you and see where it goes. We can get Volunteer DBS done. If you would like to be involved, please get in touch. There have been some discussions with parents; let’s make this happen. The benefits of Outdoor Learning cannot be put in a few sentences, and we are fortunate to have Hannah Turnbull, a fantastically dedicated, creative teacher who I often find out there before 8am working away.

School Photographs.

You loved the school photos last year. We are conscious of the squeeze on finances and are lucky to have a teacher who happens to be a great photographer in school. Letter will go out this week. I will send these by email, with text reminders so that you don’t miss out.

Easter:

FoPHS has funded Easter Eggs or a sensory alternative for all students. We have also been gifted some bubble wands from parent Chris, these will go home with most of our students. I suspect we will have a few for whom bubbles aren’t cool! When sorting these out, I do check information on allergens, cultural, religious, and specific requests. The photos below is just a few of the ones we purchased.

FoPHS 100 club.

Thanks to those parents who joined yesterday at the fayre. We are happy to have people join now for the remainder of the year; £12 gets you 2 numbers and £6 for FoPHS. Every little helps.
