Research request:

We have been contacted by a trainee Clinical Psychologist asking for parents of children/young people with a learning disability to complete a 20-minute survey. This is specifically looking at the following:

“We are looking for parents of children with a learning disability, who attend a specialist education provision, to complete a 20-minute questionnaire to explore this, in the hope that this can help inform a better support provision for parents moving forwards. (Note this is not specifically about the support that they have received from school, but from all services)”.

We are conducting a study about support for families of young people with learning disabilities.

The study aims to:

• Explore parents’ experiences of support for themselves and their children with learning disabilities across the UK.
• Identify any factors that impact parent satisfaction of support for themselves and their children with learning disabilities in the UK.
• Identify any factors which affect care giving burden for parents of young people with learning disabilities in the UK.

This involves parents / caregivers following the link in the attached poster and completing and online survey. The questionnaire should take about 20 minutes to complete.

As compensation for this, all participants will have the option to be entered into a prize draw to win up to £100 worth of Amazon vouchers.

“We have a number of FREE webinars available to book covering a wide range of topics – Toileting, Food, Managing Meltdowns, Social Stories, Autism and Mental Health, Sensory Issues, Siblings etc.

We hope to be adding a list of new dates for our webinars in the near future.

The Autism Hub, South Tyneside

The Hub runs regular events in South Shields that are specifically for our families in South Tyneside.

There will be guests at some of our events at the Hub.  See below for details:

• At all four October groups – Guest will be Jacqui, Strategic Carers Liaison Officer and a member of the STACS Team (South Tyneside Adult Carers Service)
• At November’s Cuppa & Cake group for families of autistic children aged 11-18 years – Guest will be Andy Hampson, Police Engagement Team
• At December’s Cuppa & Cake group for families of autistic children aged 11-18 years – Guests will be Ryan and Gillian from SENDIASS

If you have any questions about this charity, they will be attending our Autumn Fayre tomorrow and will be pleased to share information about their activities with you.

Please see the attached posters on some activities in the North East, including the relocated Monday Boccia session.

Autumn Fayre:

After what seems like months of planning, our fayre takes place tomorrow. Thanks to the staff, parents and students who have offered support. We could not do this without you. The aim of the fayre is to provide a social gathering for our families, friends and the community whilst raising funds for FoPHS. We hope tomorrow brings the best of an Indian summer or, at the very least dry weather.

So, we have the following planned:

Children’s rides

Ice cream van.

Police cadets.

Blood bikes

Smile through Sport

Face painting and glitter tattoos

Photo booth; with a Christmas backdrop.

Chocolate, bottle, and gift tombolas

Cake stall.

Lucky dip

Count the sweeties

Trade and craft stalls

Indian street food van

Hot dogs, burgers, pizza, bacon and sausage butties, cheese and fruit scones, shortbread.

Greggs bakes.

Raffle with lots of prizes.

For those of you who are volunteering, please report to the FoPHS stall which, weather permitting will be outside the main school reception. If you could arrive 10 minutes before your allocated time that would be greatly appreciated.

If you would like additional hard copies, please let me know and I will send them home with your child/young person. Staff, family and friends are most welcome to join too so please share.
