Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 15th December 2023

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Family Liaison Blog!

What a fantastic week we have had in school? From Christingle, MOVing in a Winter Wonderland and 2 parent events we seem to be picking up speed. It was wonderful as always, resources funded by the FoPHS and created by our wonderful MOVE team.

The sensory assembly for the engagement pathway was very well attended and I hope that those of you who were there enjoyed it. I’ve referred to these before and feel it my duty to watch one each half term so that I can discuss it with parents/carers effectively.

Today, we had the ELTBA pathway craft and coffee session for parents with students. These are always lovely, giving families the opportunity to do something nice in school with their children and talking to staff too.

Request for information:

Could any of our parents recommend positive experiences with dentists? This is for both students with sensory needs e.g Autism and those who require accessibility and other specialist e.g those with physical disabilities. We would like to build a bank of recommendations from parents/carers who have experience.

School Meals

You will have received a letter with details on paying for school meals last Friday.

16-19 Bursary

Thanks to those of you who have returned completed applications. To make best use of this bursary we need to submit the applications which are done by finance with me. I also need to meet with the team to assess student needs.

Annual Health Checks

I saw this on the “Contact-for families of disabled children” page.

Toby Henderson Trust

Often in conversations with other parents and carers there are similar thoughts on the understanding or lack of around Autism. I wonder if this webinar might help. These are free of charge too.

Animal-Friendly Reindeer Food

Well, here’s a relatively simple fun activity to do with your children, or to get those learning independence skills to make themselves.

North East Days Out

As I have shared a lot of activities, I thought this week I would link you to Facebook groups which I have shared before and may provide some inspiration. They are not disability specific groups, but if something appears interesting you can research further.

100 Club

I will be sending flyers out this week with the QR code to join the above.

I usually end each blog with a quote or something relevant. This week, with just 4 days of the term left I want to speak from the heart:

Try your best to find some time next week to do something for yourself, be that exercise, shopping, meeting friends, relaxing or simply sitting still for a short time.
