NCS Students Raise Money for Tiny Lives

Students at Northern Counties School have been raising money for the charity Tiny Lives. They did this by making and selling different products, eventually displaying a cheque at the RVI in Newcastle.

As part of their Enterprise topic, Hadrian Class from Northern Counties School had to choose a charity and fundraise for them. They chose Tiny Lives, which is a charity helping premature babies and their families in the RVI Neonatal Unit in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The choice of charity was a simple one, because many of the students in school were Tiny Lives babies.

First, students researched various ways to make money, eventually settling on sponsored walks and dances. They even made and sold keyrings.

But their main fundraising effort came when Michael Orange, the owner of sweet shop Sweets Galore in the Metrocentre, kindly donated 6kg of sweets. Both students and staff would like to massively thank Mr Orange for his donation, which has helped severely and without him fundraising would have been a lot more challenging. With the delicious treats they had great fun making and selling Sweet Cones.

The children then delivered the money to the RVI Hospital where they met Louise, Tiny Live’s Community Events Fundraiser. They showed her their folders which documented their fundraising efforts and she was very proud of all of their hard work.

All in all, pupils raised an amazing £560.20!

Their work has been truly rewarding and will make such a difference to the work that Tiny Lives do.
