Who We Are

The Percy Hedley Foundation is one of the largest regional charities supporting people with a range of learning and physical needs. We take a person centred, flexible approach to the care and support we provide. We work towards excellence every day and our team members are committed to delivering the very best outcomes for the people we support. Our dynamic and flexible service is tailored to the specific needs of the individual, making it easier to live, learn and be part of a world adapting to change.

Hedley’s Horizons provides adults with disabilities day opportunities and activities that promote the ethos of lifelong learning and the importance of wellbeing in adult life. Hedley’s Horizons is a busy, vibrant and varied environment that supports disabled adults with cerebral palsy, communication and sensory impairments and complex learning needs including those with Autism Spectrum Conditions. We offer a choice of activities that meet peoples' aspirations, needs and preferences, thus offering a very individual programme with support from a highly skilled and dedicated staff team.

The Role

We are continuing to grow our therapy team and have a unique opportunity for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join our team. You will be supported by our lead therapist and speech and language colleagues to deliver a high-quality specialist service to our service users at Hedley’s hub. There may be from time to time an expectation to work more flexibly in other parts of Horizons to support colleagues with joint projects and initiative and annual leave cover.

This post requires  a knowledge of working with service users with autism, Learning disabilities, behaviours that challenge and sensory processing difficulties. The key objectives of the successful candidate include providing assessment and intervention for a caseload of people, predominantly with autism and with complex speech language and communication needs.  Experience in sensory processing and understanding the impact of this on service users’ self-regulation would be hugely beneficial although is not essential.

Training opportunities to develop and increase skills and knowledge in this highly specialist area will be available alongside a robust induction period. We are looking for someone who is keen to learn, has a strong occupational focus and is motivated to make a difference.  We need someone with a dedicated person-centred approach in order to promote improved health and wellbeing, choice and ultimately optimum occupational performance.

The post holder will work alongside existing therapy colleagues to continue to develop this service in line with strategic ambitions and aspirations and to promote the most optimum lifelong learning experience for service users and their families.
