Family Information and FOPHS News Friday 3rd May 2024

Welcome to Percy Hedley School's Whole School Blog!

I don’t know about everyone, but when the sun shines, I feel better about most things, so it was lovely to finally see the sun this week. Hoping it continues trough the bank holiday weekend, which is a prompt to remind you, as though you didn’t know that Monday is the first of the May bank holidays and school is closed.

I’ve tried to include some links in the activity section for things to do.

A couple of reminders:

Father’s Day sale: We are gratefully accepting donations for the Father’s Day sale on Friday 14th June. This is something the students enjoy; having the opportunity to purchase a gift at a reasonable cost for their dad or significant male carer. No alcohol please as we cannot sell it to students and no nuts as we are a nut free school. Please send in fao Kayden, Amanda, or me if you can help.

Junk: Any plastic containers, boxes, or anything we could use for junk modelling would be gratefully received. Please send in fao Laurie in Post 16 if you can support.

Uniform recycling:

Christian’s class, with one of our OT’s Jo are collaborating on this- his students are recycling uniforms as part of their PFA (Preparation for Adulthood) enterprise.

They have purchased laundry products and now that the life skills room has a washing machine are ready to go.

The plan is to have these available at parent events, with the launch on 23rd May at the Engagement pathway coffee afternoon.

So, if you have good quality used uniform you are happy to pass on, please send it into school marked for the attention of class 6CHe.

Online Safety

The link to the Online safety information can be found on the school website under the heading “Parent and carers area”, then “online safety” from the dropdown menu.

This week’s online safety blog, which has been done by Joel covers Why Language Matters? “Online” Friends

We know how important it is to communicate effectively and stay safe online. In this blog post, let’s talk about why referring to online ‘friends’ can sometimes hide safeguarding concerns. Within this post, there are some tips to help stay safe and stay smart when online.

You can find the link to this, and previous weekly online blogs here:

Information: A Kind of Spark; TV series

“A Kind of Spark, series 2 has landed on BBC iPlayer today! This is a powerful, heart-warming live action series which is based on the award-winning book by neurodivergent author, Elle McNicoll. A Kind of Spark tells the inspirational story of an autistic teenager Addie. When she learns about the witch trials that happened centuries ago in her hometown of Juniper, Addie knows that there’s more to the story of these ‘witches’, just as there is more to her own. We love the representation of this programme as some of the cast are #ActuallyAutistic!”

Cresswell Towers 3–4-night stay

Facebook Page

I see this with some of our families; I’ve got people in my life who are just this, and more. It is so important, as they also tend to be the ones who simply get it.

“Surround yourself with people who get it. Surround yourself with people who will be supportive and understanding. Surround yourself with people who won’t judge you or your child. Surround yourself with people who will love you and your child unconditionally. Find your tribe. A tribe that will be there for you and your child on your journey. You and your child deserve this and nothing less. ~ Unknown”
