A Surprise Visit from Alan Shearer!
Students at Northern Counties School were delighted by a surprise visit from football legend, Alan Shearer. He attended a football themed assembly, answered questions, signed memorabilia and took photos with students and staff. We thank him so much for making everyone's day!
Following on from a surprise face-time with Alan Shearer back in December, Northern Counties School students Kieron and Liam had their dreams come true, when they met Alan Shearer in the flesh!

Both Kieron and Liam were overjoyed with meeting their idol, chatting and having a cup of tea with Alan, before getting memorabilia signed.
Alan was then kind enough to attend a football themed assembly, helping the students with their curriculum theme of My Home Place, part of which was looking into local heroes. Alan was gifted a very special biography, made from the students for their curriculum documenting his life and career. He was very pleased with this and even took it home!
He answered questions from both students and staff based on his career and even answered some wild-card questions – for example, whether he likes the colour pink? (Which yes, he does and his daughters do too).
Afterwards he posed for photographs with staff and students, including from Northern Counties School Football team, and signed more memorabilia.
Northern Counties School signing choir then put on a special performance of I’m Coming Home Newcastle in honour of Alan Shearer, decked out in Newcastle United T-shirts.
Martin Lonergan, Headteacher of Northern Counties School said, “As Headteacher of Northern Counties School, I was so proud to welcome a local hero to our school, premiership all time top goal scorer, Newcastle United Legend.., Alan Shearer. This linked into our Curriculum Theme this half term My Home Place. Thank you Alan, it was a pleasure to meet you.”
Alan’s attendance was an inspiration to everyone and we cannot thank him enough for coming. Thank you also to Ian Watson, from Hadrian Healthcare, who helped facilitate both the initial facetime and the meeting in person.
