We have roles to suit everyone, no matter how much time you have to give and whatever your experience.

Benefits of volunteering

  • Make a difference to someone’s life and your community.
  • Volunteer with other passionate people.
  • Be recognised for the skills and experience you bring to our Foundation.
  • Learn new skills that could help your career and add to your CV.
  • Volunteering makes you feel good and is a great way to improve your mood.
  • Spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle.
  • Gain knowledge and understanding of other ways of life.

We are very lucky to have some amazing volunteers who support Percy Hedley in so many different ways.

Whether it is volunteering at one of our fundraising events or placing collection tins in your local area, if you have a few hours to spare, you can make a real difference to the lives of the people we care for.

Volunteering Opportunities

Being a Buddy means accompanying and helping some of our residents with various activities. Residents ages range from 20’s-80’s and activities may include going on outings such as bowling, baking, football etc.

We have a community café which is run by our service users and staff. Volunteering here would involve table or counter service, cleaning and assisting with money handling skills.

We have a number of vehicles across all of our sites ranging from small ‘Caddys’ to medium and large minibuses. We are looking for confident people who would like a volunteer role behind the wheel!

We would love to link up with skilled or competent people who are looking to do some volunteer work to offer ‘Pamper’ sessions for our young people and staff to enjoy, whether that’s massages, aromatherapy or meditation.

Volunteering as a Gardener could include lawn management, helping out in the greenhouses, watering or cleaning up gardening areas, and designing and planting planters.

We have storage areas of accessible bikes, trikes and quads. These require regular maintenance and organisation to ensure that when required they are accessible and in the best possible condition for our children and young people to use.

Our residents would like to meet people with similar interests to join them for a good ‘natter’ about whatever you like to talk about!

We are looking for volunteers to help in our schools on a regular basis to assist with activities, assisting in the classroom, arts and crafts, and more.

We are looking for Corporate or Public Bodies who are able to offer a small group of staff as volunteers to deliver recruitment and volunteer recruitment leaflets to the named areas through door delivery.

Previous Volunteers

Our previous volunteers have done some wonderful work!

This includes:

  • Volunteers from TSG came into Northern Counties School to clear and clean an unloved, overgrown space in their gardens, which will then be transformed into a sensory garden in the Spring
  • Volunteers from Virgin Money UK did an excellent job cleaning up the playground at Northern Counties School!
  • Volunteers from DWP who recently came to Horizons to do some gardening and some general decorating.
