The Gingerbread Man

Northern Counties recently presented their fantastic Gingerbread man film to their families, teachers and staff. As well as watching the film the audience were treated to gingerbread men snacks handed out by the children, and a special presentation showing all the hard work that went into putting the film together.

Huge well done to everybody involved!

The Percy Hedley Foundation and Northern Counties are delighted to be in the Groundwork Tesco bags of help scheme during July and August.

Together we can help secure the top grant of £4k!

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores awarded to local community projects and we are delighted to be one of the groups on the shortlist.

To vote, you need to make a purchase within store of any value between Sunday 1st July –  Friday 31st August.

You will receive one token per transaction, it’s not necessary to purchase a carrier bag in order to receive a token, and all votes will go towards helping to secure a grant to buy and fit a specialist wheelchair accessible roundabout for outdoor play.

“The wheelchair accessible roundabout will enable young people with very complex needs to experience being on a roundabout which they will have not been able to access before. This will provide a new sensory experience and will support the development of each child’s individual communication skills. But most importantly it will be fun!”

Claire Ramsey, Deputy Head at Northern Counties School.

We are delighted to announce that Oli Crawshaw won the Northern Children of Courage sporting achievement award in May. Oli has Spinal muscular atrophy type 2 (SMA II), an inherited condition which affects his muscles. It is characterised primarily by progressive muscle weakness, but that has not stopped Oli in his determination to learn and do well in life.

Oli goes to Marine Park First School and started playing Boccia in September 2016 at the After School Disabled Sports Club at Percy Hedley School. He now plays both Boccia and Powerchair Football and has recently been picked for the Newcastle United Foundation ‘Mini Magpies’ team which is in the Premier League for Powerchair Football. He is the youngest player ever to be picked to be in the Vipers UK Training Squad, a tough and very competitive pathway to hopefully being picked for the Boccia England Paralympic Team. Oli turns up for every single training session, despite ongoing treatment which take a huge effort.  His commitment and enthusiasm is immense and inspirational to other children. This award will spur him on, to live life to the maximum and enjoy the sport he loves.

Printworks Install New printer

Printworks, based on the Tyne Tunnel Industrial Estate, have recently installed a brand new six colour large format Canon printer.

Complementing their popular digital and lithographic services, the addition of the large format option will allow for the production of eye catching posters, banners, photos, canvas prints and other point of sale products in full vibrant colour.

The first job to “roll off the press”, was a banner for Belford First School in Northumberland.

Head Teacher, Janet Robinson said…

“Thank you for the excellent work you have done on the banner for Belford First School. It was a pleasure to work alongside you all to produce a banner incorporating the children’s work that will be proudly displayed in the school entrance. You made the process from design to print easy, due to your teams approachable attitude. We are delighted to have been able to give you the opportunity to test out your new printer and look forward to working with you in the future on other projects. “

For all your print requirements contact Printworks on 0191 258 8907.
