The Tim Carter Appeal
About Tim Carter
Tim Carter
Tim Carter played in goal for Sunderland between 1987 and 1993, later becoming the first team goalkeeping coach and then academy coach.
During his career, Tim also played for Bristol Rovers, Newport County, Carlisle United, Birmingham City, Hartlepool United, Millwall, Oxford United and Halifax Town. He also made three appearances for the England youth squad.
As a goalkeeping coach he worked with the Sunderland first team and academy teams and was also a part-time coach for the Estonian national team.
"Tim was a fantastic servant to Sunderland Football Club and more importantly a wonderful, gentle man who is missed by all of us every day."
"We are delighted to be able to give our backing to this appeal which will provide both a much-needed facility for the north east region and a lasting memory of a very special person."
Sunderland Association Football Club Chairman, Niall Quinn
"My husband was overwhelmed and humbled by the determination and achievements of the children and adults at Percy Hedley School. He thought it was wonderful that they were treated as equals with non-disabled people. The Sports Academy amazed Tim and he played an active part in fundraising for the school."
"Percy Hedley was close to his heart as our son, who is 4 years old, has cerebral palsy and is a pupil at the school. The hydrotherapy pool that will be built in Tim's name will make a huge difference to the children and adults at the school. It will help families and individuals across the north east and I'm sure will make our children very proud that their daddy could make such a difference in the lives of people with special needs."
Gina Carter
"We have all been moved by the thoughts of everyone at Sunderland Football Club and football supporters everywhere who knew Tim Carter and want to contribute to something of lasting benefit in his memory."
"Modern hydrotherapy facilities at Percy Hedley will make a huge difference in improving the health and activity levels of many disabled children and adults throughout the whole North East region."
"On behalf of everyone at Percy Hedley Foundation, I would like to thank Gina Carter and Sunderland Football Club for their kindness in thinking of others and launching the 'Tim Carter Hydrotherapy Appeal'.
