Angela Gilbert BA (Hons), NPQH
Angela is the Principal of Northern Counties College, a new specialist college for students with disabilities between the age of 18 and 25. Her responsibilities include the development of the college through planned expansion to include a significant element of work experience over the next three years and the day to day management of staff and students on the site.
Angela started her career as a teacher in mainstream secondary schools before realising her ambition to successfully run her own catering business for 6 years. After a brief period as a business counsellor she returned to teaching, developing an interest in special educational needs.
Angela has worked in special schools for the last 10 years both in Newcastle and in Sunderland with pupils and students who have a range of learning needs including severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties, language and communication difficulties and physical disabilities. For the last 4 years Angela has been both a Deputy Headteacher and Acting Headteacher.
Angela has a BA (Hons) degree in Special Education in addition to the National Professional Qualification for Headship. She lives in Tynemouth with her teenage daughter Nathalie.
