The sun shone, the sea sparkled and 189 Percy Hedley runners put in a simply brilliant performance on Sunday 20th September 2009 at the Bupa Great North Run! A heartfelt thank you to you all from everyone at the Percy Hedley Foundation.

The Percy Hedley tent was buzzing after the race and really did have a party atmosphere. Our physios and other volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day to make our runners as comfortable as possible by massaging tired legs and serving much needed refreshments.

Several members of Percy Hedley Foundation staff were among the team, along with parents, and many other supporters including a team of 19 crew from HMS Dauntless, 20 from the Parbold Pink Panthers Running Club in Lancashire and Team Grant - a group of supporters from Whitley Bay who even held a Riverboat Shuffle on the Tyne to boost their sponsorship.

Des Bustard, Director of Fundraising said "13.1 miles is a long long way and all our runners make such a marvellous effort on the day and in the run up to the event sticking to a training schedule in their busy lives. We are so grateful to them all, those who keep on running year after year and those running for the first time."

Tony Best, Foundation CEO added: "Thank you to all the runners. They have made a real difference to what we can do to support the disabled children and adults at the Foundation, many of whom are in wheelchairs. Through their efforts we will now be able to provide equipment and activities that will enable these disabled people to join in sports and leisure events. On their behalf, thank you."

All funds raised will go towards the Percy Hedley Sports Academy, to give young disabled people a sporting chance.
