Impressed Police Service Make Kind Donation
Officers from Northumbria Police present Percy Hedley
students with their donations.
Percy Hedley Schools have been working in close collaboration with Northumbria Police force to support police officers in understanding young people and adults with disabilities to help them deal with situations they may face whilst on duty.
Police officers were so impressed with what they saw in school that Tom Stabler, who was the Chief Inspector of North Tyneside at the time, nominated the school for a £250 donation. However, after a further visit to the school this was raised to £1000.
This money was used to buy fantastic equipment for our new Outreach centre, including a Nintendo Wii, Wii balance board, games and an i-pod.
The outreach centre aims to serve as a base to support both the school and the community, and most of the capital to build the centre was raised by our successful application to receive Specialist School Status.
The outreach centre will provide an area to run courses for pupils and a space in which sibling groups can spend time. We also aim to use the facility to host conferences for parents and professionals where we can disseminate the good practice at Percy Hedley Foundation.
