Percy Hedley Stars
Winners of the Children's Foundation Stars Awards celebrate their success.
On Thursday 25th June 2009 three pupils from Percy Hedley School attended The Children's Foundation Stars Awards at Durham County Cricket Club. The Awards aim to recognise the challenges that children and their families face on a daily basis and reward their accomplishments and raise awareness of important issues to ensure equal opportunities.
The scheme was initially set up in 2007 by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Diane Packham, as part of the Lord Mayor's Centenary Appeal and administered by The Childrens Foundation.
The award categories are: child/young person; friend or sibling; parent/carer. The nominated individuals can live anywhere in the North East.
Three children from Percy Hedley were nominated for various achievements including fantastic progress with using Voice Output Communication Aids, increased signing and supporting peers and a successful transition into a new school.
All of the children had a fantastic day and received a medal and a certificate. More information on The Children's Foundation can be found at www.thechildrensfoundation.co.uk.
