A new partnership has been formed between Percy Hedley Foundation and the MS Research and Relief Fund which has provided a grant of £10,000 to establish a new rehabilitation programme for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis in the region. Here at Percy Hedley Foundation we have an established reputation in helping children with cerebral palsy become as independent as possible through Conductive Education, a learning method that originated in the famous Peto Institute in Budapest which helps children with cerebral palsy to learn the skills for mobility, communication and everyday tasks. This approach has been proven to be equally valuable for adults with related neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis.
MS nurses are referring individuals who can benefit and the MS Research and Relief Fund grant of £10,000 will support the project in its first year of operation. A joint steering group has been formed to oversee its development and report on progress. The project has employed trained Conductors to conduct the sessions and monitor improvements in association with the National Institute for Conductive Education and the Peto Institute in Budapest.
