Edward is a Powerchair Football player at the Sports Academy and it was his achievements in this sport that saw him win this award.
Edward's mother, Lorna Common said "He's a different person. Before wheelchair football he was struggling to find a way forward."
"But through sheer determination and hard work he has not only triumphed over his disability, but also proved that nothing can hold him back."
"To see the joy on his face when he is playing has made everyone around him realise that - against all odds - challenges can be beaten."
Edward began playing Powerchair Football in the Autumn 2006 and quickly established himself as one of the elite players. He began in the Junior scheme and was quickly elevated to the Senior scheme immediately winning a place in the Northern Thunder Premiership squad. He has remained their ever since and perhaps his greatest achievement was representing England in the 2007 Powerchair Football World Cup, Tokyo, Japan where he played in every single game.
"Edward is one of the real winners when it comes to Powerchair Football and it goes to show that no matter what your age and level of disability it is possible to achieve what you want to with the right level of support and coaching - Adam Parry, Sports Development Manager, Percy Hedley Sports Academy.
