Work to bring new life to an old building has begun on The Percy Hedley Foundation's Northern Counties site in Jesmond.

Tyne House will be home to seven disabled people from June 2009. The facility will be equipped with up to the minute technology to enable independence and choice for residents.

David Barker, Director of Adult Services at Percy Hedley Foundation said "This facility will be unique. The combination of high quality, specialist care and high tech enabling equipment will set new standards. We are delighted that Tyne House will be completely refurbished to provide the accommodation and look forward to opening the centre next summer".

"A grant from Futurebuilders England will enable us to provide residents with unprecedented technology", he added.
