Lord Mayor of Newcastle visits Northern Counties School

Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Newcastle, Judith James - Headteacher Northern Counties School at the Christmas Fair 2007.

The Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne has chosen Northern Counties School as his local charity and has a particular interest in our children with a hearing impairment.

Northern Counties School specialises in children who have hearing and visual impairments, autism and profound and multiple learning difficulties, all of whom have significant communication difficulties.

The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress are keen to support our specialist work in helping children to develop communication skills through sign language and speech, symbols, braille, alternative and augmentative communication systems and programmes such as "Intensive Interaction".

During visits to the school they have enjoyed performances from the children which include signed singing, and have met many of our families at our Christmas fair.
