Mobex Success
Three cheers for Northern Counties College
None of the students at Northern Counties College quite knew what they were letting themselves in for when they signed up for Mobex training. Perhaps if they had known what Mobex involved they may have turned the opportunity down; wrongly believing that due to their disabilities the activities on offer would in no way be accessible to them.
As a charity, Mobex North East has been delivering specialist development programmes to young people from disadvantaged areas of the North East since 1991. They are specialists in the design and delivery of activity programmes that complement the work of youth groups, schools, colleges and universities, mental health groups, disability groups, Youth Offending Teams, the Probation Service and many, many more.
Now, after six weeks of Mobex, if you were to offer the same activities to these students they'd say "yes" with no hesitation knowing full well that with the right support, equipment and a bit of self confidence that almost anything is possible.
After the first activity a deep bond of trust was formed between the instructors and our students. The students gained confidence and conquered fears and achieved success which was otherwise unknown to them. They all took part in a variety of exhilarating activities including caving, gorge walking, abseiling, archery, indoor wall climbing and canoeing.
Students who took place were Helen Binns, Nicola Barber, Kayleigh Bare, James McLaughlin, Dean Hales, Dan Whitehead, Jane Larmont, Kirsty Duffy.
