The Staff!

Staff, students, families, Trustees and Governors at Northern Counties College enjoyed a fun filled Awards Evening at St James' Park in Newcastle on Thursday July 9th 2009.

Many local employers including Bishop Skinner, TDR Group, Komatsu UK, National Grid, Marks and Spencer, C2M, Dickinson Dees, Department of Working Pensions (DWP), Gregg's, the Co-Op and Mark Earnden aka Expo Chef, sponsored trophies and prizes for the students.

The evening started with a drinks reception followed by the presentation of awards for both staff and students. There were fourteen categories for students, which were:

  • Communication
  • Life Skills
  • Independence
  • Arts and Media
  • Business Administration
  • Catering
  • Horticulture
  • Enterprise
  • Work Skills
  • Outstanding Effort
  • Students Choice
  • Healthy Eating
  • The Principal's Trophy

The winner of the Principal's Trophy

All nominees were voted for apart from The Principal's Trophy which was chosen by the Principal of Northern Counties College, Angela Gray.

There were also five awards for members of staff - voted for by staff - for Outstanding Contribution.

After the Awards Ceremony there was a buffet and a disco. Everyone had a great time and danced the night away.

James Riley, a student, said "It was a fantastic night, the staff and students all did so well and everyone deserved an award."

Another student Mary Suggett said "I have been at Northern Counties College for three years and I am leaving in two weeks, I have loved my time at the College but the Awards Evening is the highlight of our year. It is great to have a chance to celebrate with the staff, students, Governors, Trustees, families and Employers. The Employers are really great and let us visit them on Work Experience."

We couldn't have achieved this without the help of the staff at St James' Park. They were fantastic in helping the College set up in the afternoon with the sound systems and video links, and the catering and bar staff worked very hard all evening.
