Residence

It is the aim of Northern Counties College, to give every learner the opportunity to have a residential experience during their time at the College. There are a small number of residential places for students who require 24 hour support to develop independent living skills or who travel a significant distance.

Full time residents will stay 4 nights each week and have an Individual Care Plan linked to their College Individual Learning Plan.

Learners who stay for short periods will work on skills linked to their Individual Learning Plans. During their stay in residence each student is actively involved in planning evening activities and completing tasks which develop and encourage independence including, meal planning, preparation and domestic tasks.

Students in residence arrange activities including visits to the cinema, local pubs and restaurants, theatres, sports events, bowling, social activities in the local community and shopping.

The residence has access to a range of on-site facilities including a swimming pool, hydro-therapy pool, sports hall, common room and games room which can be used for residential activities.

Residential staff are experienced and well qualified and are on duty at all times when students are in residence to offer close, consistent, yet unobtrusive support to ensure students gain experience, confidence and independence skills in many areas.
