Money Pours in at Summer Fair !
BBC Weatherman, Paul Mooney, opens the Summer Fair
The Percy Hedley Summer Fair on 5th July 2008, opened by BBC Weatherman, Paul Mooney, was a great success regardless of the weather. Residents of the local community, along with staff and pupils braved the rain and supported this event, raising more than £6,000.
Tim Healey presents new Sunshine Coach
On Wednesday 11th June, 2008, Tim Healey presented the new Sunshine Coach to students at
Percy Hedley School on behalf of the Variety Club Northern Region.

On Friday 20th June, 2008, Rachael and Claire McArdle from
HMC Group visited Percy Hedley School. Rachael and Claire attended last year's Percy Hedley Mistletoe Ball and donated
£10,000 to help many more families give their children the best
start in life.
John Mowbray appointed new Chair of Appeal Committee
John Mowbray, Corporate Affairs Director with Northumbrian Water,
has recently taken over from Jocelyn Maxfield as Chair of the Percy Hedley Foundation Fundraising
Appeal Committee.
Zip Sliders zoom across St. James' Park in aid of Percy Hedley
Brave Newcastle United supporters climbed to dizzy heights to zoom across
The hallowed turf of St James' Park to raise money for Percy Hedley Foundation.
Allied Irish Bank Shamrock Ball in aid of Percy Hedley
The Allied Irish Bank in Newcastle upon Tyne held their annual
Shamrock Ball on 1st February and raised a tremendous £22,500 for
Percy Hedley Foundation.

for Easter Eggs for the children at Northern Counties School.
Over 350 people gathered for the Percy Hedley Mistletoe Ball at the
Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel on Saturday 1st December 2007.
Hosted by Wendy Gibson, the ball raised an amazing £71,000 to give
disabled children the best start in life.
The evening was generously sponsored by Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, Tom's Companies, Fenwick Ltd, Cumbrian Seafoods, Millennium Nails, Sumo Design, Potts Printers and many others who bought tables and donated raffle or auction prizes.
Gordon Waugh, whose son Daniel goes to Percy Hedley Primary School and Colin Washington whose
daughter Katie attends Percy Hedley Senior School, visited to present £3,000 raised by
Procter & Gamble staff at the Product Supply Facility in Seaton Delaval.
Wendy Gibson, who compered at our Mistletoe Ball in December,
visited Percy Hedley School to meet parents and children taking part in a
Conductive Education Session.
The Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne has chosen Northern Counties School
as his local charity and has a particular interest in our children with a
hearing impairment. During visits to the school the Mayor and Mayoress have enjoyed
performances from the children which include signed singing, and attended our
Christmas fair.
Ian Hughes-Paxham, General Manager and staff from the
Newcastle Gateshead Hilton Hotel visited
Percy Hedley School to present a cheque for £2,794 raised
by staff throughout the year.
Newcastle and England football legend Peter Beardsley
visited Percy Hedley School to find out more about Powerchair Football,
the new version of football pioneered at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy.
There was a party atmosphere in the hospitality tent following the Great
North Run 2007. Some of the runners were staff and
parents of children at the Percy Hedley School as well as teams from local companies, such
as Irwin Mitchell, Proctor & Gamble, Newcastle Gateshead Hilton, Newcastle Bang & Olufsen
and from our affiliated ship, HMS Dauntless.
A host of budding entertainers from the business community enjoyed their five minutes of
fame on 7th September 2007, all part of the evening's entertainment at the
Alternative Business Awards.
The John Laing Powerchair Rugby weekend was extremely successful with teams taking
part from across the country. The John Laing Cup was won by the Red Arrows team and
we hope that this event will become an annual competition.
Jane Shepstone trekked across Mongolia on horseback for 9 days and
stayed in a tent for the duration of the trip, raising a total of
£7,319.78. Thank you so much for your support and well done Jane!
Thanks to the generous support of the Evening
Chronicle Sunshine Fund, National Grid,
R. W. Mann Trust, National Lottery Awards for
All, Westfield School and Metro Radio Just for
Kids, work began on the new garden at the Leybourne Residence last autumn
and with their help the children's ideas have been able to blossom!
A team of six from the 'Able 2' centre recently completed their Coast to Coast
cycle challenge, cycling 140 miles from Workington to Tynemouth from 8th to 12th June,
raising over £6,500 for Percy Hedley Foundation. Congratulations!
Mike White and the John Laing Social Infrastructure team from Newcastle, presented
a cheque for £10,000 from the John Laing Charitable Trust, as sponsor of the first
National Powerchair Rugby Competition. We are extremely grateful to John Laing PLC
for making this possible.
Nigel Day and his support worker Andrea Kelly raised over £300 from a sponsored bike
ride using a duo bike.
Thank you to the National Grid volunteers who have helped to transform the
garden for children at our Residential Unit at Leybourne Avenue.
Thank you to members of the Personal Finance Society (Tyne Tees) who donated
£4,000 raised at their annual dinner.
The Postcode Lottery has adopted Percy Hedley Foundation as a regular
beneficiary to receive a set percentage of the money raised by players
across the region.
The Lord's Taverners, Cricket's Official Charity, has donated a Combi Goal Unit
to the Percy Hedley Senior School at Killingworth.
