Leaving a Legacy

Many people find it comforting to know that they can continue helping others after their death. Your bequest to the Percy Hedley Foundation in your will would be an act of caring by which you would be remembered in years to come. It may be that you can reduce the inheritance tax your beneficiaries may have to pay by making a legacy to charity.

Why it is important to make a will.

Many people think that if they die without making a will their estate automatically goes to their next of kin or partner when they die. However it is possible that your entire estate could go to the Crown. Making a will is the only way for you to plan how to take care of your family, friends and support your favourite charities after your death.

What should you do?

If you wish to include a gift to Percy Hedley Foundation in your will please give your solicitors our Registered Charity Number: 515943 and address: Hampeth Lodge, Station Road, Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8YY, or the following appropriate downloadable form.

There are three forms of legacy you might like to consider:

If you want to alter an existing will you can add a Codicil for any of the three legacy types mentioned above.

A will is a legal document. We would strongly advise you to seek professional advice from a solicitor or from the Trustee Department of your bank if you wish to draw up a new will or alter an existing will. If you don’t have a solicitor, you can visit the Law Society at www.solicitors-online.com and use the locator to find a solicitor in your area.

Give in memory of a loved one

Rather than sending flowers in memory of a loved one, families and friends sometimes like to make donations to a charity. We will record gifts received in this way in our ‘In Memoriam’ book and this will help us to continue to provide much needed services. Gifts made ‘in lieu of flowers’ can usually be arranged through your funeral director. If you wish to send gifts directly we still write to thank each donor, unless otherwise requested, and let you have a total of the gifts in memory. Please contact us on 0191 2665491 for advice or further information.

Give in celebration

Think of Percy Hedley Foundation when you are planning your next special occasion. Consider asking friends and family members to make a donation instead of receiving gifts. This can be done for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and many other special occasions. We still write to thank each donor, unless otherwise requested, and let you have a total of the gifts in celebration. Please contact us on 0191 2665491 for advice or further information.
