Academy Cup and Sports Achievement Awards

Following on from the success of the Northern Thunder Cup and Awards Evening held last year, the whole event has been redesigned and revamped to include the whole of the Percy Hedley Sports Academy.

The Academy Cup will see competitors from across the whole Sports Academy compete against each other in Boccia and Powerchair Football across two days of competition. Final placing in both sports will be added together to see which team is this years Academy Cup winning team.

The event then takes a more social side as it moves to St James' park, home of Newcastle United, for an evening of celebrations.

During the evening there will be a raffle, an auction as well as other activities all raising money for Percy Hedley Sports Academy's 'Sport for all appeal'.

There will also be the official awards ceremony which will include the Academy Cup Presentation, awards for athletes competing in competitions representing the Sports Academy, an overall Sports Personality Award, an Outstanding Contribution award and the new Percy Plonker award recognising some of the stranger and funnier moments in sport.

There will also be a Pie and Peas supper as part of the evening and then a disco allowing staff, athletes, parents, carers and supporters of the Sports Academy to mingle, socialise and dance the night away.

For athletes to compete in the Academy Cup there is a cost of £20 per athlete.

For athletes and their families to attend the Awards night there is a cost of £5 per head.

For all other people to attend the Awards night there is a cost of £10 per head.

The dress code for the night is Smart Casual.

The Academy cup will take place at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy during the day on the Saturday, 9th and Saturday, 16th of May, while the Awards evening will take place in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite, St James' Park, on Saturday, 16th May starting at 8pm and continuing on until 1am.
