North East CP Boccia Regionals
Boccia players in action at Percy Hedley Sports Academy
Percy Hedley Sports Academy once again hosted the regional championships for CP Sport Boccia with a view to seeing who will progress through to the National Competition in March.
24 competitors took part in the competition competing across three categories and as usual the Percy Hedley Foundation was well represented with nine competitors representing Able 2, eight representing Percy Hedley School and three representing Percy Hedley Sports Academy.
Although numbers are lower than in previous years the quality of competition was still extremely high particularly in the BC3 category which is players who use an assistive device.
One player who particularly impressed was seven year old Ellen Law who attends the Monday night clubs at the Sports Academy. She won all of her games in the pool stages 13-0, 3-2 and 3-1. She then narrowly beat Lewis Fisher, (Percy Hedley School) in the semi final 4-2 after a tie break end before eventually losing to the more experienced Faye Stevenson 3-0.
'Ellen has been a total breath of fresh air playing Boccia and she is completely unfazed by anything! Her age certainly does not count against her in any way and I can't wait to see her at the National Finals competing against GB players.' Adam Parry, Sports Development Manager, Percy Hedley Sports Academy.
