After an very early start, they arrived with just half an hour to spare before their first match, a little nervous they played The Rhinos, a fairly good team with a bit more experience than them, the team were lacking in confidence and it took the first two periods to settle down, lost the first period 2-6, won second period 3-2 and by the third period they seemed to have gained a bit more confidence and won by 10-4 however lost end period 4-9 overall score 19-21.

Next match was against a very good side The Meteors. The Eagles had regrouped and assessed the first match changed things around a bit and looked a bit more confident, won the first period by 12-11 better defending however, they were still letting the opposition get too many chances at the basket, next two periods held them to a draw 3-3 and 2-2, final period ended up 9-10 which meant they had a draw of 26-26 and an extra period to play, the Eagles lost by three points, however the team had played much better and were a lot more confident for their final match.

Final match of the day was the Jaguars All Stars against the Eagles, this was a match where the Eagles were favourite to win, and they did not disappoint scores - period one 4-3, period two 1-2, period three 2-4 final period 4-5 end result 11-14.

The Eagles are now training very hard for their next matches in the New Year, this first round has made them re- think their training programme and they are working much better as a team now, and they have changed the way they defend.

Round two will be played at All Saints Sports Centre, Sheffield on Saturday 7 February 2009, with the final round at the Wild Cats Arena, Nottingham on Saturday 14 March 2009, all results and a review of how they got on will be on the Percy Hedley Academy web site.
