Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association's Regional Junior Championships

The recent partnership between Percy Hedley Sports Academy and the Newcastle Eagles exploded into action on the 25th and 26th October at Stoke Mandeville Stadium when a team representing the North East of England took part in the U-19's category at the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association's Regional Junior Championships.

This was the first time in a significant number of years that the North East has been represented in this tournament and is the beginning of North East players playing in a range of Junior level tournaments this season.

7 players took part in the tournament, all of whom train at the Percy Hedley Sports Academy and 3 of the players are also part of the Newcastle Eagles Wheelchair Basketball School of Excellence which will see a team taking part in the National Junior League beginning in November.

"The junior development scheme is going from strength to strength in the Newcastle Area and it was very exciting to see players who are coming through the system out on court playing in a competitive tournament. The results from the weekend were not the important part, the important part was that the partnership between Eagles and Percy Hedley has produced what it intended to do and that is young people playing wheelchair basketball in a competitive enviroment" Adam Parry, Sports Development Officer, Percy Hedley Sports Academy.
