Powerchair Football Season ends on a high

Northern Thunder logo Northern Thunder again put on a good display in the Powerchair Football National League and this year ended up runners up in both the Premiership and the Championship divisions.

Playing in both divisions for the first time and only dropping a couple of points in each division ensured that they kept the pressure on the eventual winners right up until the very last game. Although the A Team remained unchanged from the previous season the B Team fielded players that were new to the sport as well as some 'older' hands.

'The coaching staff involved in Powerchair Football are immensely proud of the players this season and regardless of the end placings both teams have had incredibly successful seasons. The dedication and passion of the players has been second to none and this can only be built upon in the next season'. Adam Parry, Sports Development Officer at the Sports Academy and Head Coach of Northern Thunder.

Both teams are currently undergoing a trial process to determine the National League Squad for the next season as well as preparing for the A Teams inclusion in the European Champions League which will take place in France this November.

The league was the end of a very successful year for all Powerchair Football that takes place at Percy Hedley Academy for Disability Sports this year and followed on from the inclusion of five players in the England National Team that took part in the FIPFA World Cup held in Japan in October 2007.
